Welcome to Dallas: Forever Moves
The whole purpose behind Moore in Dallas is to help you get better adjusted to life here in Dallas. I want you to be able to feel welcome to this amazing city!
Dallas has tons of things going on throughout the week. There are some things that are staples and always happen. I call those my “Forever Moves”. I call them that because they will forever be going on (for the foreseeable future.)
Now, this list isn’t every ongoing event in Dallas. I’m really putting the ones that I, MYSELF, regularly attend. There are other dope ongoing things like Wings Day at Gator’s, Park Ave on Fridays, or Sunday nights at Level, but I’d be lying if I told you I consistently go to those.
Here are MY top “Forever Moves”:
Think Tank Tuesdays
Think Tank was built to be small networking function. They meet every other Tuesday at Realty One Group in Deep Ellum.
This is a welcoming environment where you have a chance to connect with like minded business individuals and sip a lil bit as you do it.
You can choose to stay in the big group and collaborate, or you can go off to smaller groups and work on things individually or with a partner.
I’ve made some great connects here and it’s also been a great mutual space to invite someone I haven’t actually met in person before. You know those people that you connect with on IG so you want to meet them somewhere where they feel more welcome than a Starbucks.
This is my go to networking space.
LIT Bible Study
This is a new one for me, but already I think it’s my favorite.
LIT Bible Study is everything I’d want in a bible study.
We meet at For Oak Cliff every Tuesday and we break into small groups where we break down biblical text and have open dialogue about it. There is a structure of questions to go through, but this isn’t someone just lecturing about the word. We all pitch in and give perspective. This has been really important for me in my faith walk because it shows me other people are dealing with similar things. Being able to sit across from someone and they say word for word the exact things I’ve been thinking really gives you a reality check.
Everyone there is extremely encouraging and welcoming. I’ve only been a few times, but I really feel like I’m part of the group. I’ve been greeted with open arms and I can’t wait to go back every week.
Black Canvas is a whole vibe. Every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month Black Canvas bring us live music, poetry, and other performing arts. It’s an open mic, but the talent is so great that every show feels like you’re watching an actual show with just a few “open mics” sprinkled in there.
Even the people that are new always seem to impress me. It might have something to do with the way the crowd supports everyone. Everyone who goes up is greeted with open arms. We might have to shush the crowd a few times, but it’s still very welcoming.
I can’t stress how much I love this event. If you don’t know where to start on this list, start here. I just recommend you get there kind of early. Space fills up quick and you won’t enjoy it as much if you end up standing the whole time. Go early, get yourself something to eat, and chill out with a hurricane.
“Aye you trappin tonight?”
If you hear someone ask me this, I promise it’s not how it sounds.
Trappiest Hour is an ongoing event every Thursday at OT Tavern. I want to emphasize AT OT TAVERN!
Honestly I like going to Trappiest more than any other party type event. Usually people like this kind of event for the weekend, but in Dallas there is always something new going on so I’m flexible on those days. I have no consistent weekend move, but on a Thursday night I will more likely than not be at Trappiest.
Pull up! Once a night the first person who comes to me and tells me they found out about Trappiest through this blog post then your first drink is on ME!
There are plenty of other things going on in Dallas, but I thought this would be a good start. For upcoming events please subscribe to my email list below. Going forward I will be putting out a newsletter once a week.
There’s a lot of content coming your way… brace yourself.
