Dallasites to Know: Cheryl Polote-Williamson
There are people you meet who just have this energizing vibe.
You can’t explain what it is, but their presence radiates through a room and you want to listen to everything they say.
Cheryl Polote-Williamson is one of those people.
I was invited to “The Power of Laughter Heals the Soul” event at the Dallas Black Academy of Arts and Letters on January 5th, that headlined comedian A-Train and a pair of hilarious guys that all had me falling out of my seat laughing the entire night.
I enjoyed the show but the highlight of my night was when Cheryl, the woman behind the event, took the stage.
Cheryl isn’t just a best-selling author, award-winning producer, philanthropist and entrepreneur. She’s also a motivational speaker, and when she took the stage, you could feel her presence before she even said a word.
“Tonight we came together for charity.,” Cheryl said. “The reason that I called this particular series ‘The Power of Laughter Heals the Soul’ is because I feel like you can encounter and go through anything in life, but you have to be able to laugh about it.”
She explained how each comedian that performed was chosen because of the things they had personally battled and overcome. Each of them had stories that had me like, ‘dang… I feel kind of bad for laughing.’ Kind of like Kevin Hart’s “Laugh at my Pain” stand up. Stuff that if a regular person told you, you’d be like, ‘dang bro, bring it in. We need to hug this out!’
I was already vibing with that explanation, but then she went deeper and let the audience know about her philanthropy.
“We together can raise money for The Soul Reborn Victory Center in Tyler,Texas,” she said. “We’re bringing women together to teach them about philanthropy, leadership, etiquette, wealth building, entrepreneurship… but these are the two kickers, visioning and affirmation.
When you have the ability to celebrate yourself, pat yourself on the back, speak life into yourself, nobody can speak anything else over you.”
The passion Cheryl shared fired me up! I left show with my inspiration meter on full, ready to take on whatever life has for me!
I’m excited about what’s coming for the Soul Reborn Victory Center. If this is something you’d like to be involved in, please contact Cheryl via her website or social media.
I want to be more involved in philanthropy this year. Comment below your favorite local charity!
